Back to School 2011

In September, we held our Back to School Meeting. We were blessed to have some of our teen friends speak to us regarding the importance of modestly dressing; dealing with peer pressure, and managing our time to ensure that we plan our time with God everyday. The girls were very excited to see friends from last year as well as make some new ones. We all started our scrapbooks and took cover photos for them. We worked on a list of things that distract us from God with our LIT's.
We read our ministry verse:
Proverbs 17:17a A friend loves at all times
and our theme verse:
1Peter 3:3-4 :Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

Harvest Friends

We started off with a special time of worship with Miss Lisa Lynne. We were visited by Mrs. Soper who spoke to us about the importance of Davids' friendship with Johnathan. The girls recognized the importance of determining who their close friends are. They even learned a rap.
The girls each made a tiny tote out of Altoid mint cans.
Our scripture for today:
Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Be a Light for Jesus

Our October 22 meeting was moving and inspirational. Our visitor was Mamiko, a representative from Operation Christmas Child. She spoke with the girls about the process of how the shoeboxes came about and went over the process of how they end up across the world. She showed the girls a video with the latest American Idol winner Scotty McCreery, who showed us how to fill a shoebox. The girls worked on putting together prayer bracelet kits that can be included in our shoeboxes.
The girls also participated in a ceremony in which they pledged to go out and be a Light for Jesus. Upon acceptance of the pledge they lit a candle. Very touching.
Our scriptures for this meeting were:
Matthew 6:1 Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
and
John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Apple Picking 2011

Our first October meeting-we were blessed with an amazingly warm day to go on our annual apple picking trip. We carpooled to the orchard and visited the pumpkin patch before taking the tractor ride up into the apple orchard. Before we departed, some of our friends shopped at the country store while others visited the animal farm.
Our scriptures for the day were:
Psalm 17:8a Keep me as the apple of your eye
and
Matthew 12:33 Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be ba, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.
